On 27 February, Pastor Rachid Seighir and Nouh Hamimi were sentenced to two years in prison for allegedly “shaking the faith” of Muslims through the Christian literature being sold in their bookshop.
These charges follow a raid on the Algerian church-run bookstore in September 2017. Police found Christian books, publications (including Bibles) and printing machines. Following the raid, the Governor of Oran ordered the bookshop to be closed.

An appeal of the case was scheduled for 18 April. However, it has now been postponed to 16 May.
Let us pray.
- Pray for Pastor Rachid and Nouh as they prepare for the upcoming appeal. Pray for wisdom and favour and ultimately their acquittal.
- Pray that in the meantime these men, their families and fellow church members may be strengthened, kept safe from harm, and greatly encouraged in their faith.
- Ask the Lord to use this case as a witness for the Gospel to strengthen the faith of believers in Algeria.
Lord of the Nations, who places those in power and deposes them as He wills, we pray for the Leaders and Peoples of Algeria especially the ALGERIAN Judiciary and for President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Prime Minister Sabri Boukadoum (Acting) (Abdelaziz Djerad), head of Government and Gobvernment MPs. May you bring a true vision of the Lord Jesus Christ before them and surround them with opportunities to hear and respond the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Convert their souls because we know that the soul that sins dies. We plead for Pastor Rachid Seighir and Nouh Hamimi as they prepare for the upcoming appeal and pray for wisdom and favour and ultimately their acquittal. We ask that in the meantime these men, their families and fellow church members may be strengthened, kept safe from harm, and greatly encouraged in their faith. Fill them with your Holy Spirit that their witness would be the instrument to many becoming followers of Christ. We indeed ask you, to use this case as a witness for the Gospel to strengthen the faith of believers in Algeria. Lord have mercy and thank you for them and their faith.
Ruler of the Nations, we pray for Algeria, it’s Leaders and Peoples especially President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Prime Minister Abdelaziz Djerad and Cabinet and MPs. We ask that a true vision of the Lord Jesus Christ be revealed to them as they come under the sound of the Gospel of God and see the witness of faithful believers. Pour out your Spirit on this nation and its Judiciary that they might revere you and follow your Son. We remember particularly Pastor Rachid Seighir and Nouh Hamimi as they suffer imprisonment for their faith. Encourage their hearts by your Holy Spirit and remind them of Jesus’ words; that blessed are all who are persecuted because of righteousness and for my name’s sake for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven. We pray for the upcoming appeal and plead for an acquittal and for wisdom, favour and safety. We urge you Lord that in the meantime these men, their families and fellow church members may be strengthened, kept safe from harm, and greatly encouraged in their faith. We plead that their case would be a tremendous witness and instrument in your hands to see many won over to Christ and that they might drink deeply of the well of the spring of living water. Have mercy Lord, have mercy.
