The number of Christians arrested in the Eritrean capital Asmara in the last month is now thought to have risen to 50. Thirty arrests were made on 20 January, at a worship meeting of the Philadelphia Church in a private home in the district of Mai Temenai. Among the detainees was an 85-year-old woman, who was also accused of hosting Bible study groups in her home. Release Eritrea says the raid was ‘well planned and targeted Bible study leaders’. All detainees are being held in the notorious Karchele security prison in Asmara. Sources: Release Eritrea, Release International
