As we commemorate 50 years at Voice of the Martyrs, we are encouraged by the commitment of those who have brought us thus far. There are too many to mention; supporters, volunteers, staff and leaders have toiled faithfully year in and year out to create the ministry we have today.
As we grapple with ever-increasing persecution of those who love Jesus the world over, the organisation is changing. We find ourselves being able to share news of such atrocities very quickly, to mobilise our supporter base to pray. Never before have we had the technology to present our message so effectively.
God’s Word is now shared in many technologically advanced methods such as SD card Bibles and EPUB files sent via the Internet, which can be downloaded onto an electronic device. These methods allow persecuted believers to access God’s word in a safer, less conspicuous manner.
The enemy too uses such capabilities; we see this particularly in China. Believers have to be diligent and always on their guard as technology like facial recognition cements itself in communist culture as a means of monitoring everyone’s movements and suppressing the church.
This being said, persecuted believers still cling vehemently to God’s Word and the timeless fact that prayer is always most powerful. No technology can replace that! No tricks of the enemy can outsmart God and disrupt the workings of His Holy Spirit.
In our modern world, the enemy has many faces and has successfully infiltrated the Western church through secularism and a watering down of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We need to be prayerful and bold in our faith. We must be mindful that freedom comes at a price – let that price not be complacency.
As we move forward, let us never forget those who suffer because they utter the name of Jesus on their lips and hold Him dear. We at Voice of the Martyrs count ourselves blessed and honoured to be a voice for those whose voices have been drowned out.
“Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.” 1 Corinthians 16:13
