IDOP: What Should I Pray?

Prayer: it’s the joyous privilege and urgent task of every Christian.

The Scriptures have much to say about prayer. Romans 12:12 encourages us to continue steadfastly in prayer and Ephesians 6:18 urges us to pray always. And James 5:16 adds that the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. In fact, prayer is so important that Romans 8:26 explains that when we don’t even know how to pray, the Holy Spirit Himself intercedes for us.

If, as believers, prayer is such an important part of our walk with God, how much more should we join with other believers to lift our voices and prayers together before His throne of grace?

And as part of the body of Christ, surely we must pray fervently for the enormous needs of our persecuted brothers and sisters throughout the world.

That’s exactly what the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church is all about.

On Sunday 8 November, Christians all over the world will be praying earnestly for the persecuted church. Please ask your church to get involved with IDOP and add your prayers to thousands of others as we lift the persecuted church up to the Lord.

Through prayer you not only support the persecuted church, but become partners with them in the cause of God’s kingdom, striving together with them as you pray.

Not sure what to pray? Why not start with these suggestions from the Bible:

For faithfulness in the face of great temptation to give in under persecution – Matthew 26:41

For strong, unwavering faith in Christ – Luke 22:32

That despite great persecution, Christians will have abounding love for their persecutors – Philippians 1:9-11

For wisdom and understanding for Christians facing legal restrictions – Colossians 1:9

That God will strengthen persecuted Christians with patience – Colossians 1:11

That opposition will actually result in more opportunities to spread the Gospel – Colossians 4:3

For believers in hostile nations to stand firm in the will of God – Colossians 4:12

That God be glorified through them and they would be sustained by His grace – 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12
