A manhunt is underway after a group attacked the Salvation Army’s service post in central Sulawesi, murdering four Christians, setting fire to the church and burning six houses.

Around 8am on Friday morning, the alleged terrorists set the church on fire, before killing Captain Arnianto, Mrs Mpapa, Lieutenant Abram Kako and his wife. Out of the four victims, three were hacked to death, while the other was burned. Six houses belonging to church members were destroyed by fire.

The Salvation Army is asking for prayers “for the family of the victims, for the church, and for the peace of the region.”

As police investigate, they have increased protection for the villages in the area.

  • Ask the Lord to walk closely with the families, church members and the community to help them to cope with the shock and grief.
  • Pray for the protection of the authorities as they pursue the perpetrators. Pray for wisdom and insight.
  • Ask the Lord to use the tragic deaths of these believers, somehow for good. Pray those in mourning will cling to Him during this time of great suffering and be comforted and strengthened by God.
