Christians in Iran face constant danger when living out their faith. This is particularly true for those who convert from Islam. For many, faith in Christ leads to torture and imprisonment.

Ismaeil Maghrebinejad, 65, was taken into custody in January on charges of propaganda against the state. In a hearing on 22 October, charges of apostasy were added by the judge, even though Ismaeil has been a Christian for nearly 40 years. The next court hearing is expected in two months’ time.

  • Pray Ismaeil will experience God’s peace and grace during this difficult trial.
  • Pray he will be given opportunity to witness for the Gospel for which he has been detained.
  • Ask the Lord to strengthen and encourage all Iranian Christians who are falsely accused of acts against national security simply because of their Christian faith and activities.

Almighty God and Gracious Father, bring great peace and strength to Ismaeil as he faces this adversity for your sake. ‘The joy of the Lord is your strength’ (Nehemiah 8:10) Help him by your Holy Spirit to rejoice in the Lord always (Philippians 4:4) and be wise and discerning as he answers questions about his faith and activities, that ultimately you might be glorified and the Gospel might progress in the lives of many. Thank you Lord for our brother and all believers in Iran!
