Tensions between Christians and Muslims remain high in Kenya’s Mombasa region following the murder of two pastors in separate incidents on 20 October.
Charles Matole, 41, leader of Mombasa’s Vikwatani Redeemed Gospel Church, was found dead in his church that Sunday morning. He had been shot in the back of the head. He is survived by his wife, Clarice, who believes he was killed to scare Christians away from the area.
On the same day in Kilifi, about 55km north of Mombasa, Pastor Ebrahim Kidata was found strangled to death. He is survived by his wife, Sarah, and seven children. He had started 36 churches in the area.
Both murders are thought to be related to unrest between Christians and Muslims, but no one has claimed responsibility.
