A pastor in Wa state served two months of hard labour in a prison camp recently after religious authorities noticed an increasing number of people converting to Christianity.
Pastor Sam often accompanied his wife to market days in the area, where she sold fresh fruit and vegetables. They both took the opportunity to share the Gospel with people they met. In time however, authorities noticed a rise in the number of people turning to Christ and decided to arrest the pastor.
He fled before they were able to arrest him and authorities instead arrested his wife and also burned their entire stock of Bibles. When Pastor Sam heard that his wife was in custody, he returned to take her place in prison, serving two months.
According to VOM contacts, the situation in the region of Wa state is very difficult for Christians right now. “Pray that God would give them strength to stand firm in faith,” a Christian leader said.

- Ask God to strengthen believers in the region. Pray they will be a great encouragement to one another in the faith.
- Ask the Lord to minister to Pastor Sam and his wife. Pray they will be granted a willingness and opportunity to continue in ministry.
- Pray that God would soften the hearts of Wa authorities and bring them to a saving knowledge of Him.

Father, Lord of heaven and earth, we rejoice in the news of conversions in Myanmar Wa State and pray for the strengthening of your children, especially Pastor Sam, his wife and close supporters. Nehemiah 8:10 says, “And do not be grieved for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” May this be the experience of your persecuted people as they encourage one-another. May their ministry and witness grow exceedingly under your providential hand and we plead for the souls of the Wa authorities that they might be brought to a saving faith in Jesus.
