Pastor Jen and his driver were on their way to a church seminar in central Nigeria earlier this month when they were ambushed on the road from Jos to Abuja.

Yohanna Maina, who was driving, says that armed Fulani militants stopped their car by shooting at it on the Kafanchan-Kwoi-Bwari highway near Jere.

Yohanna said Pastor Jen was praying loudly as they were led into the bush at gunpoint ─ despite the fact his captors were beating and threatening to kill him unless he stopped praying. His kidnappers have since reportedly demanded a 1 million-naira ($3475) ransom.

The driver was held for several hours until his captors realised he’d been injured in the ambush and let him go.

Pastor Jen is director of the Christian Education Department of the Evangelical Church Winning All. “He’s a man of prayer and strong faith, and I am convinced that God will see him through this terrible ordeal”, says Yohanna.
