The appeal hearing for Pakistani Christian Asia Bibi was this week adjourned to a date unspecified. Judges at Lahore High Court were expected to have heard final arguments in her appeal against a death sentence for ‘blasphemy’ on Monday.
The Punjab farm labourer has been detained since 2009 when she was accused of blaspheming against Islam’s prophet Mohammed following a dispute with fellow workers.
Asia is one of four Christians currently on death row for ‘blasphemy’. Lahore road-sweeper Sawan Masih was sentenced to death on 27 March; couple Shafqat Masih (also known as Emmanuel) and his wife Shugufta received the same sentence earlier this month.

- Pray that Asia’s appeal will be heard soon and that she will be acquitted. Pray that judges will not be swayed by any pressure from Islamic hardliners but will ensure that justice is done.
- Pray that God will be with Asia, her family and all those who are supporting them.
- Pray that He will protect His children in prison and keep them in His perfect peace.
