Pakistani pastor Zafar Bhatti, 57 has been in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Central Jail since July 2012, when he was charged with sending blasphemous text messages.
On 3 May 2017, Zafar was sentenced to life imprisonment for blasphemy, a charge he denies. The mobile phone in question was not registered to his name.

Zafar’s appeal hearings have been adjourned repeatedly. On 18 October high court judge Chaudhary Abdul Aziz referred Zafar Bhatti’s case to the lower court to revise the judgment – the second time this has happened in the high court. Zafar’s lawyers are now considering taking his case to the Supreme Court.
In prison, Zafar has experienced pressure from Muslim prisoners to convert to Islam and has been beaten several times.
Zafar has developed diabetes and heart disease since being imprisoned and experiences headaches. He feels a great sadness over the years he has lost.
Let us pray.
- Ask God to give Zafar and his wife the strength to endure, while they wait for a High Court ruling.
- Pray that the specifics of the case will be considered with true impartiality by the judge.
- Pray for Zafar’s release, and for his and his wife’s health to be restored.
