Laos is still a majority communist nation and one often forgotten. Since the year 2000, the local government has persecuted many churches and now they are targeting villages with new believers.

To make life difficult for new converts, authorities will often not allow Christians to drink the water from the village well or water supply.

Late last year, Voice of the Martyrs Australia, with the help of our supporters, provided five LifeStraw water filters which were distributed around cities and villages.

Two water filters were taken to the Vientiane Capital City, and three into the provinces of Savannakhet and Salavanh.

The LifeStraw water filter is a high-volume point-of-use water purifier with built-in safe storage that provides safe drinking water in many settings. It prevents waterborne disease such as diarrhoea, typhoid, cholera and worms.

Local Christians have promised that despite the persecution they will share the water supply with the communities surrounding them and offer it to anyone else in need.
