Description

Excerpt from the book…
“But the Martyr stood erect, calm amid suffering, serene amid his dreadful agony, by faith clinging to his Saviour. He was there, though they saw Him not; His everlasting arm was round about His faithful follower, and His Spirit inspired him.
Nearer grew the flames and yet nearer. Life, assailed more violently, trembled in her citadel, and the spirit prepared to wing its way to its mansion of rest.”

The Martyr of the Catacombs – A Tale of Ancient Rome is an anonymous story which was published many years ago. A copy of the book was salvaged from an American sailing vessel commanded by Captain Richard Roberts. The ship had been abandoned at sea after encountering a disastrous hurricane in January 1876.

The story though fiction, tells of triumphant faith portrayed in the lives of the early Christians. They practised their faith and lived out an existence in the labyrinth of catacombs deep beneath the city of Rome. History has recorded that throughout the reign of Emperor Nero, it was one of the bloodiest periods of Christian persecution experienced and this story could attest to any one of the true heroes of faith.

Listen to this incredible story which has now been narrated and is available in MP3 format
