MYANMAR: Five Families Kicked Out of Village in Rakhine State

MYANMAR: Five Families Kicked Out of Village in Rakhine State

After being shackled for three days and fined for buying a banana from a Christian vendor, Maung Cia sought out a pastor in a neighbouring village. The pastor shared the Gospel with Maung and two of his friends, and they accepted Christ.

Maung then led 10 other villagers to Jesus and invited the pastor to lead a worship service in his village. Midway through the service, Buddhist villagers severely beat the pastor and stoned the worshippers. Village leaders later forced five families out of the village.

VOM is providing the families with food and housing assistance. “Now as much as I can I’m sharing the Good News and I will continue to do so,” Maung said. “Please remember us in your prayers. Thank you for your support and your love. God bless you.”

  • Praise God for taking the barbaric and unjust punishment inflicted on Maung, to bring about a spiritual awakening.
  • Pray for those who oppose the Lord and His Good News in the area, that He will use the witness of these new believers to encourage others to repentance and salvation.
  • Pray the families affected may be strengthened in their faith and be mightily encouraged as they see the hand of God at work.

INDIA: Fifteen Christian Families Left Homeless after Attack

INDIA: Fifteen Christian Families Left Homeless after Attack

Fifteen Christian families from three villages in India’s Chhattisgarh state were left homeless after being attacked by religious fanatics.

On 22 September, members of the Sarya Adivasi Samaj (SAM) group summoned 15 Christian families to a meeting in Kakadabeda village. At the meeting, the Christians were told they had to recant their faith or they would be forced to leave their villages. When the Christians refused, SAM members attacked.

The Christians were beaten and forced to sign an affidavit which stated they agreed to stop receiving government subsidies, including basic food assistance that is normally distributed on a monthly basis.

After the meeting, SAM members attacked and demolished the homes of the Christians who refused to recant their faith. In total, 15 homes were demolished over the course of two days including 10 in Kakadabeda, two in Tiliyabeda, and three in Singanpur.

“The police and local authorities were not helpful as four homes were destroyed in their presence,” Shiyaram Payam, a local said. “No action was taken against those attacking the homes.”

Following the destruction of the 15 homes, the Christian families fled into the jungle for safety. Many fear further attacks by SAM members. Most are not confident they will receive any form of justice.

  • Ask the Lord for justice for these believers. Pray God will lead and provide for them.
  • Pray they will not grow weary or lose heart. May they be unified in their love for Him and encourage one another in the faith.
  • Thank God for their remarkable faithfulness. Pray their witness will be powerfully used by Him.

INDIA: Pastor Forced to Vacate Home after False Conversion Accusation

INDIA: Pastor Forced to Vacate Home after False Conversion Accusation

An independent church pastor in India’s Karnataka state has been told to vacate his rented home which was being used for worship gatherings. The pastor has to leave the house because radical Hindu nationalists have put pressure on the pastor’s landlord.

“They threatened that they would break my hands and legs,” Pastor Nallabothula Peter said. “I received several unknown phone calls with abusive language that claimed I am involved in illegal religious conversions and that I don’t have right to live in the area.”

On 30 June, Pastor Peter was praying for a demon possessed girl when police were called to his residence. According to Pastor Peter, neighbours, likely pressured by radicals, had complained about the prayer meeting.

“I doubt the neighbours gave a complaint,” Pastor Peter said. “For more than six years, we have been conducting house prayers and there were absolutely no complaints from anyone in our neighbourhood. This was planned and targeted in a way to shut down the house church and send me out of the colony.”

According to Pastor Peter, his landlord is continually receiving pressure from radical Hindu nationalists telling him that he must force the pastor to vacate the house. The radicals have also registered a false accusation against Pastor Peter, claiming he is attempting to convert the entire colony to the Christian faith.

The COVID-19 pandemic has made finding a new home difficult. “It will be miracle if I rent a house in the same area,” Pastor Peter said. “The Hindu radicals already alerted the entire area to not rent out their houses to me.”

  • Ask the Lord to shield Pastor Peter from targeted violence. Pray for continued protection for him, his family and all the believers who he associates with.
  • Pray the Lord will provide a suitable new home for him.
  • Pray Pastor Peter will not be fearful. Ask the Lord to use this incident to further embolden him in his faith and ministry.

LAOS: Abusive Husband Demands Return of Children

LAOS: Abusive Husband Demands Return of Children

Mrs Khoun, who came to faith in Christ last year, loves to listen to a Christian radio programme that broadcasts sermons and other Christian teaching in her language.

Her husband has always opposed her Christian faith, and his harassment, including beatings, has grown more severe. He recently gave her an ultimatum: Stop going to church or leave the house. She chose to leave, taking two of their five children with her, but her husband is fighting to get the children back.

  • Join with Mrs Khoun in praying that the Lord will intervene to ensure she will be able to keep her two children with her. Commit to the Lord, her other three children.

INDIA: New Believer Persecuted over Rumours of Paid Conversions

INDIA: New Believer Persecuted over Rumours of Paid Conversions

Aarav came to faith in Christ after experiencing healing from an illness when a local minister prayed for him.

When Aarav invited the minister and his family to his home, about 50 members of a militant Hindu group gathered there and began shouting and banging on the doors. The pastor called the police, who came and told the mob that nothing improper was happening in the house. The Hindus were not satisfied, and police finally took Aarav and the pastor to the police station for questioning.

The situation was apparently resolved, until local media reported false allegations of Christians being paid to convert. As a result, Aarav and his family have been evicted from their home, lenders are demanding immediate repayment of loans and Aarav’s long-time client has said he will no longer purchase milk from him. “The family is very sad and worried,” a VOM partner said. “We need to stand urgently in prayers with them.”

  • Ask the Lord to intervene to finally resolve the situation for Aarav and his family. Pray He will help them remain faithful during this difficult trial.
  • Pray Aarav and his family will receive much care and support from their Christian family as well as members of their community.
  • Persecution in India continues to escalate. Pray the Lord will give courage and wisdom to His church.
