Myanmar: We are Helping Kachin Christians

Voice of the Martyrs Australia will be travelling to Myanmar next week to distribute emergency packs to displaced persons.

Thousands of people have been displaced as Myanmar’s military has renewed its offensive against the mainly Christian Kachin people, pounding them with airstrikes and artillery, burning villages and occupying churches. They have lost their homes and their livelihoods.

The emergency packs contain food items such as rice, powdered milk, beans, spices, oil and potatoes. They also include blankets, first aid kits, matches, and tarpaulins (for shelter).

Our initial distribution will supply 2,000 people with these desperately needed items. We plan to distribute packs to at least another 6,000 people very soon.

Christians make up around 9% of the population in Myanmar and have long been targets for religious persecution.

The military control Myanmar with an iron grip, and there are some who won’t rest until all of Myanmar is Buddhist – at any price.

Please continue to pray for our Kachin brothers and sisters, for the state of Kachin and for the country of Myanmar.
