LAOS: Laotian Teenager Kicked Out

A Laotian teenager was kicked out after her mother and stepfather realised she had become a Christian.

Monthida, 16, accepted Christ after she accompanied a friend to church. Whenever Monthida would come home late from school, her mother would quiz her on where she had been and why she was late. When her mother found out Monthida had become a Christian, her stepfather worried he would lose his job if others discovered that someone in his family was a Christian.

He and her mother tried many times to convince Monthida to give up her faith, but she would not. Finally, her stepfather told Monthida not to come back home unless she was ready to renounce Christ. Monthida is now living with a pastor and his family. “Pray that Monthida will not be discouraged,” a VOM contact in Laos wrote.

  • Ask the Lord to grow Monthida in wisdom, knowledge and understanding, even during this time of great difficulty.
  • Pray for the salvation of Monthida‘s family members. Pray that the Lord will even now be softening their hearts to the Gospel.
  • Thank the Lord for the strong Christian witness in Laos, which continues despite opposition

LAOS: Teenager Kicked Out

LAOS: Teenager Kicked Out

Only days after he accepted Christ, 15-year-old Seng was already facing the persecution Jesus often spoke about.

After his parents learned of his decision, they sat down to talk with him, telling him he needed to renounce his “foreign” faith. If he didn’t, they would kill him or kick him out of the house. When Seng told them he wouldn’t, they packed up his belongings and told him to leave. “Go stay with those Christian friends of yours. You are not welcome here,” his parents said. “Stop this religion at once.”

Seng is staying with friends with assistance from VOM.

  • Ask the Lord to guide and protect Seng in his new faith. Pray Seng will be greatly encouraged by God’s Word and the faith of fellow believers.
  • Thank the Lord for an opportunity for Seng to be cared for during this difficult time. Ask God to help Seng come to terms with the loss he is suffering.
  • Pray the faithfulness of this young, new believer will become known and that many more will come to know the goodness of God and that salvation is only through Him. Pray especially for Seng’s parents.

UGANDA: Three Children Kicked Out by Grandmother

UGANDA: Three Children Kicked Out by Grandmother

Three children in Uganda have been living on their own since their grandmother forced them out of her home for becoming Christians.

Penny, Elijah and Charity’s parents are Muslim. When it was time for Penny, the oldest, to attend school her parents couldn’t afford it. A teacher in her grandmother’s town agreed to teach the children, so they moved in with their grandmother.

Soon after their schooling started, their grandmother noticed the children talking about Jesus and sneaking away to attend Sunday school. The grandmother forced the three children, aged 12, 10 and 6, to leave her house, offering no support.

Penny cared for the other two as best she could with help from their teacher. The teacher asked for help from a VOM-supported frontline worker, who has agreed to care for them.

  • Thank God for the care Penny, Elijah and Charity are receiving. Pray these precious children will grow in knowledge of the One who truly loves them.
  • Ask God for provision for the frontline worker as he cares for them. Pray too for wisdom as future plans for the children are considered.
  • Ask God to bring the transforming power of the Gospel to the hearts and minds of the children’s parents, grandmother and community.
