Thirteen Three recently finished a series of youth events raising awareness and funds for persecuted Christians in Colombia. We have so much to thank God for from this event series!
Over 2900 youth attended 13 Unashamed events hosted by local churches across NSW and QLD. With their help we raised $18,063.30 to send 11,289 Bibles to Colombia. Praise the Lord!
Our goal was to raise $16,000 to send 10,000 Bibles to Colombia to support Russell Stendal’s ministry. By God’s grace and the generosity of the youth who came to the events, we exceeded our target and raised enough to send 11,289 Bibles!!
Russell Stendal risks his life to distribute these Bibles in Colombia. He flies his plane over some of the most isolated regions of Colombia and drops parachute packs over FARC guerrilla camps and remote communities. Each parachute has a Bible and a solar-powered radio fixed-tuned to a Christian radio station run by Russell.
So far, Russell has dropped over 100,000 parachute packs. Many from remote communities as well as FARC guerrillas have been led to the Lord through this ministry.
“I definitely think it’s worth the risk,” says Russell. “Just one parachute with one radio can have an effect on an entire group of men [FARC guerrillas], and we’re able to deliver hundreds of parachutes very, very precisely using this method.”
At each event, Brad Konemann, Youth Director of Voice of the Martyrs, shared his firsthand experiences meeting persecuted Christians in Colombia.
Brad spoke about the courageous faith of evangelists like Russell who go into ‘the red zones’ of Colombia to share the Gospel. He also challenged Australian youth to learn from their example and be unashamed for Jesus in their local communities.
“Persecuted Christians are doing it so much harder than us and they are unashamed … They inspire me!” Jeri, Rooty Hill
“The Unashamed event was the highlight of my year so far.” Ed Springer, pastor at The Point Community Church Port Macquarie
“It was fantastic! Thank you so much Thirteen Three for such an inspiring and challenging night.” Jono Mills, Southern Highlands
“I love Thirteen Three because we need the persecuted church more than they need us.” Matt Sparks, Youth Pastor at MBM Rooty Hill
This year, Thirteen Three will be partnering with local churches to run a series of Fearless youth events focusing on persecution of Christians in Nigeria and raising money for a special project to support Nigerian Christians.
We would love to see you at a Thirteen Three event this year!
