At 11pm on 9 June, several hundred people including police, government officials, civil defence authorities and hired thugs arrived at the gates of the Mennonite Bible School in Binh Duong province in southern Vietnam.
After breaking the gate they entered into the school, where they assaulted and beat those within the premises and ransacked the buildings, pelted stones onto the roof and damaged several doors.
Twenty-nine pastors, some of whom were attending a pastor’s retreat at the Bible school, and 47 students were rounded up and beaten; of these, more than 20 were injured. Police also brutally attacked the principal, Pastor Nguyen Hong Quang. Injured pastors, teachers and students were prevented from seeking medical help.
The attackers dispersed at around 1am on 10 June.
Pastor Nguyen Hong Quang is determined to continue the work of the college in spite of the intimidation.
