Surely, we live in unusual times and hearts are filled with fear.

My mind goes back to the days of the Second World War when everything was in short supply and we went shopping with our ration book in hand, and at night we lived in a blackout. It seemed it would never end. But it did, and we moved on into a different world.

One thing is sure with this present crisis, God was not taken by surprise. Somehow, He is working out His purposes and it is a time to prayerfully look up. I remember how often our founder, Richard Wurmbrand said to us many years ago, “When the outlook is grim, try the uplook – look to Jesus.” It seems every decade we faced a crisis of one kind or another, but our faithful God kept us through those days and up to the present time. Maybe when this is over, we will again find ourselves in a different world. But never mind, God will be there.

There are many words in Scripture to encourage us . . . surely, we are familiar with them. As Dr Charles Stanley says so often, “we win our battles on our knees”, so let us make prayer the first thing rather than a last resort.

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7

“You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.” Isaiah 26:3

“If disaster comes upon us—sword, judgment, pestilence, or famine—we will stand before this temple and in Your presence (for Your name is in this temple), and cry out to You in our affliction, and You will hear and save.” 2 Chronicles 20:9

“O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.” 2 Chronicles 20:12

“Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; But we trust in the Name of the LORD our God.” Psalm 20:7

There are many questions facing us, and we don’t know all the answers. It is a time to look to our Lord and rest in His word.

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27
