Iranian authorities have continued their campaign to intimidate, harass and arrest house church members, especially converts from Islam. As part of their campaign, police identified and raided a family gathering in August 2016, where they arrested a group of Christians. Among those arrested was Amin Nader Afshar.

Sudan | Imprisoned since 2015
Czech Christian aid worker Petr Jasek was sentenced on Sunday, 29 January 2017, to life in prison for spying, which in Sudan’s system means at least 20 years behind bars. His real ‘crime’ was to help a student who had been badly injured at a demonstration.

Sudan | Imprisoned since 2015
Rev Hassan Abduraheem, former Secretary-General of the Sudan Church of Christ, together with his co-defendant Abdulmonem Abdumawla was sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment on Sunday, 29 January 2017 for helping Petr Jasek a Czech Christian aid worker.

Iran | Imprisoned since 2013
Ebrahim was first arrested on 11 January 2011 and held for 154 days before being conditionally released, which meant he could be re-arrested at any time to complete his sentence. In 2013, he was arrested again. He was retried in March 2015 and charged with “acting against national security, gathering, and collusion.”

Yklas Kabduakasov
Kazakhstan | Imprisoned since 2015
Kabduakasov fearlessly shared the Gospel with his family and friends after his conversion from Islam. He was arrested after secret police searched his home and confiscated Christian books. He is currently serving two years’ imprisonment in a labour camp for ‘inciting religious hatred’.

Maryam Naghash-Zargaran
Iran | Imprisoned since 2013
Maryam was charged with “conducting propaganda against the Islamic regime and acting against the national security.” These are charges routinely levelled against Iranian Christians in order to criminalise any expression of their Christian faith. She was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment on 9 March 2013. During her time in prison Maryam, who has a heart condition has been denied the full hospital treatment the prison doctor prescribed.

North Korea | Imprisoned since 2015
Pastor Hyeon Soo Lim has visited North Korea more than 100 times since 1997, where he helped to establish an orphanage and a nursing home. He was detained in February 2015 and North Korea released footage in August of Pastor Lim, apparently reading from a script, confessing that he had committed crimes against the state.

Imran Ghafur Masih was accused of burning pages of the Koran. Imran was cleaning his brother’s retail shop and while he was burning the rubbish, pages of an Islamic book flew into the fire and burned.

Asia BibiAsia Bibi
Pakistan | Imprisoned since 2009
Asia Bibi is a Christian mother who was sentenced to death for blasphemy against Islam’s prophet. Asia was arrested after an incident involving Muslim women who refused to drink from the same water bowl as Asia Bibi. When Asia challenged them about this, the women accused her of making derogatory comments against Mohammed and she was arrested.
