Brother Khan was the first Christian convert in one of the most restricted areas in a Central Highlands province.
He accepted Christ approximately four years ago and subsequently led his family to the Lord.
In rural regions of Vietnam, a sole convert family in an area with no other Christians is a target for the authorities.
Earlier this week, Brother Khan was arrested and held in detention for two days, he was tortured during that time.
After returning home, he could not eat or drink anything for two days. He told his family that he did not think he would live very long under the tremendous pressure. He then pleaded with his family that they must continue to stand firm despite all that they were enduring for their faith. Soon after, Khan collapsed and died. He leaves behind a wife and two children aged 14 and 8. VOM Australia has supplied funds to cover the funeral costs.
In a separate incident, Brother Duong and his wife, Kim were also recently summoned to the police station for interrogation, in response to their bold witness to the gospel. After attempting to entice the couple to renounce their faith with gifts, the authorities began to threaten them, but the couple remained resolute. When it was realised that they could not be persuaded, one of the officers became angry and used the end of his baton to poke Duong in his left eye.
Duong’s eye is now permanently damaged and he can no longer see out of that eye. VOM Australia is funding his medical costs. Treatment is ongoing.
