Jesus Freaks

One of the lessons we can learn from church history is that the church consistently receives opposition and hatred from the world around it. For Christians in Australia, there is immense benefit in looking back at the history of persecution in the church so that we too can be emboldened to stand firm in the face of opposition. Jesus Freaks seeks to assist Christians to embrace the role of ‘Jesus Freaks’ who “are commit[ted] to seeing things differently” – who look at the opposition and hardships in the Christian life as working ultimately for their good and for the good of the gospel mission. I found these stories to be beautiful examples of Christians who were willing to endure persecution as painful acts of worship – as demonstrations of love and devotion to the Lord that stand forth as symbols of the value and worth of our God. It is always a blessing to learn from those who have gone before us—from every tribe, tongue and nation—who were willing to put their lives on the line, sometimes in horrific circumstances, for the honour and glory of God. I encourage people to read this collection of engagingly retold testimonies to fuel their love for Jesus and to solidify their resolve to stand firm in the faith.

Overall: An engaging read which emboldens us to stand alongside the countless number of bold, self-sacrificing believers throughout Christian history
