Marx and Satan
Review by Cameron

Communism was the driving force behind the persecution Richard Wurmbrand faced in Romania and remains a source of persecution for Christians in countries like China and Vietnam. Given its abiding presence today and the impact it has on Christians around the world, there is great value in understanding the key tenets of communism, as well as its history. To that end, Marx and Satan is a valuable resource. Written by a Christian who experienced the devastating effects of communism, Richard argues that Christianity and Marxism are completely incompatible and does so with airtight reasoning and compelling evidence. I found Richard’s book to be deeply informative in the way it delves into the history of communism and its key figures, revealing an overall staunch antagonism towards God. This antagonism is illustrated throughout in examples I found confronting, reminding me of the greater spiritual battle at hand. Marx and Satan proves to be an informative read that explains why Christians face opposition from those who hold to communism. My encouragement is to let this book inform us for the sake of vigilant prayer for those persecuted under communism.

Overall: A confronting and compelling treatise on the darker roots of communism.
