Over 80% of the population of Nepal is Hindu. Its people have a collectivist culture in which significant decisions are made by the head of the family or the community leader. There is a small, visible Christian community in Nepal, but believers experience opposition from extremists among the Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist and Marxist groups.
They also face opposition from local Hindu nationalists who envision Nepal becoming a ‘pure’ Hindu nation. Christians are considered to be untouchables and are ostracised by society. They are seen as people who ‘destroy culture’ and promote foreign religions.
Trishna came to Christ over a decade ago. Her husband objected to her conversion but thankfully, allowed her to go to church.
The family live in a predominantly Hindu area. Recently, Trishna has faced increased opposition from her community. She is being completely ostracised; no one will associate with her. Her husband too has started to object to her praying and attending church.
Our front-line worker in Nepal has asked for prayer for Trishna; that she will be strengthened in her faith.
