CHINA: Young Woman Missing After Police Detention

A prayer letter circulating among house churches in China describes the situation of a young Christian sister who was taken away by the police due to her involvement in developing the Christian app ‘Song of Songs.’ Song of Song is a gospel app designed and developed specifically for Chinese-speaking Christians.

On 23 August, a source stated that Sister Xin Ruoyu from Guangzhou was taken by Shandong police to Guangzhou due to her involvement in developing the Song of Songs app. She has been detained in a ‘small black room’ for a month. Xin Ruoyu is in her early 30s and she has a young child.

The source describes her as a loving, caring, and very frail woman. The prayer letter asks for God to strengthen her faith, grant her a healthy body, and provide comfort and care for her family.

In recent years, China has introduced a series of regulations aimed at restricting or even cracking down on the online dissemination of Christian content. Bible-related WeChat accounts have been blocked, Bible app downloads have been hindered, and almost all Christian music has been removed from online platforms. Recently, Christian lawyer Xie Qida was penalised by the Ethnic and Religious Affairs Bureau of Xishan District in Kunming City for posting Christian hymns on Douyin (Chinese TikTok).

    Pray for them

Pray that God would sustain and encourage sister Xin Rouyu while she is detained. Pray that she would take every opportunity to continue spreading the gospel, despite her suffering.

Ask God to work out her release, so that the plans against her would fail and God would be glorified through her situation.

Pray for the Chinese government. Ask God to foil any plans they have against Chinese believers, so that many more would come to know Christ through their faithful witness.

I’m a Baptist, born again believer. We are all praying for you precious brothers and sisters in the Lord. In His name, we have the victory! Amen! Greater is He who is in us, then he who is in the world.
Keep beleiving – Praise the Lord – see you in eternity.

    2. Janet Brumby says:

Could someone else or more than one take up her cause – so she only has to smuggle her app work out and others who are outside the country can broadcast it back into China?
