Vietnam has a repressive communist government that actively restricts Christian worship in many ways. While Christian worship is technically legal, the government views Christians and churches as a threat to its power and control. The government imposes some restrictions, while local authorities and community members violently persecute Christians in rural areas. Christians in tribal areas are often evicted from their homes and villages by local authorities.
A VOM front-line worker in Vietnam asked us to join believers in prayer after receiving the heartbreaking news that a brother in Christ had died.
About six weeks ago a father of two and a widower, Brother Man, accepted Christ.
His conversion had been made known to the local authorities, and they tried to force him to leave his house, but he refused to go. As a result, in addition to confiscating his land and forbidding him from contacting any other Christians, they surrounded his house.
Last Tuesday, Man stayed home alone while everyone else in the household went out to work. When they returned home, they found Man dead, on the floor with a bruise on the back of his neck.
