CAMEROON: Muslim Background Believer Rescued from Captivity

Mahamat, a Muslim background believer living in northern Cameroon, was imprisoned by his parents for his Christian faith but later rescued.

Mahamat was studying to become a teacher of the Koran when he rejected Islam and turned to Christ. On 3 January, his parents learned of Mahamat’s new faith and tried to convince him to recant. When that failed, they locked him inside a house. They also summoned Islamic clerics to persuade him to return to Islam.

A relative who had also become a follower of Christ soon learned what was happening, and rescued Mahamat, who had been held captive for about a week.

Front-line workers rejoice that Mahamat is free and are thankful for the rescue because they were worried that he might be poisoned or forcibly married to a Muslim woman.

    Pray for them

Front-line workers are requesting prayer that “every evil plan from the kingdom of darkness against [Mahamat’s] life will be destroyed.”

Thank the Lord for Mahamat’s freedom and pray that Mahamat and his Christian relative would grow in their knowledge and love of God as they continue seeking Him amid such opposition.

Pray for the ongoing Bible translation work in Cameroon – that many would receive God’s Word in their own language and be drawn to faith in Christ.
