NEPAL: From The Field

Arjun is married and has one daughter. He was raised in a poor Hindu family in Nepal.

Arjun went to India to work as a labourer. One day, while working on the roof of a house, he lost his footing and fell. He was taken to hospital where it was determined he had suffered a brain injury; the family could not afford the treatment. He returned to Nepal.

“My condition was not good, and I could not earn money for my family or for my medical treatment,” Arjun said. “Over time, my mind stopped working and I became mad. My wife was forced to beg for food. She also visited many hospitals to ask for treatment on my behalf, but no one would help. We lost all hope and my condition worsened, I became weak and soon, was not even able to walk.”

Arjun’s wife had heard about Jesus Christ, and in desperation, she called a pastor she knew of a few kilometres away and asked him to come to pray for Arjun. The pastor and some other believers started to visit each day and prayed for Arjun’s healing.

“Slowly, slowly I gained strength and soon I was able to stand, walk and behave normally.” The family put their trust in Christ, and they began to attend church. There are no other believers in the village, so the family walk three kilometres each way to meet at the church for fellowship. The church has shown kindness to Arjun and his wife by helping to supply their needs.

Arjun and his family do not have access to their own water source. They access water from their neighbours who have a water pump. Unfortunately, once the Hindu neighbours found out about Arjun’s and his family’s conversion. They refused to allow Arjun to access water. Arjin said, “We begged them to help us by allowing us to keep using the water, but they refused. If we stopped going to church then they said they would help us, otherwise, they wouldn’t. But I cannot stop going to church because of His grace I am healed.”

Currently, they are using river water for cooking and washing. VOM Australia has funded the supply and installation of a water pump.

Our field worker has asked for prayer for Arjun’s continued healing. Please also pray for his Hindu community.
