SIERRA LEONE: Christian Girl Escapes Secret Society

A Christian woman was forced to flee after her family threatened to kill her. The young woman became a follower of Christ as a girl, after meeting Christians when she left her village to attend school. When she returned home, her family was going to initiate her into a secret society, but she told them, “My faith doesn’t permit me. I am a daughter of Christ.”

An estimated 90% of Sierra Leoneans are aligned with secret societies that dominate all aspects of life in the country. They practise demonic rituals that include bodily mutilation and the ritual killing of humans.

As a result of the young woman’s profession of Christian faith, her family threatened to kill her as a ritual offering to their gods. She escaped into the forest and is now receiving vocational training, in the form of sewing skills, with other young women who were also rejected by their families for coming to faith in Christ.
