In Vietnam, new Christians in tribal areas are often evicted from their homes and villages by local authorities who view Christianity as a foreign threat. Some Christians are denied social services, utilities and access to schools.
Our front-line workers are asking for prayer for recent incidents:
1. Mrs B and her husband worked very hard to acquire two hectares of land to cultivate and build a home. However, since she and her family accepted Christ, the local authorities began to threaten the family and physically attack the couple, in an attempt to force them to renounce their faith. After several failed attempts, local authorities confiscated the family’s land and forced them from their home. With the little savings they had, they were able to buy a small piece of land from a brother in Christ, and they are now living in a shack they’ve built for themselves. Mrs B’s husband is an evangelist who travels far to share the gospel.
2. When local authorities in Brother L’s area realised that he was experienced and knowledgeable about farming, they provided him with a ‘red book’ (Land Use Right Certificate). But since learning that he had become a Christian and engaged in evangelism without ‘permission’, the authorities then revoked his red book, seized his land and forced his family to leave the village. The family is now temporarily living with another Christian family.
3. Brother Y once served in the People’s Army of Vietnam. As a war veteran, he had been receiving full benefits from the government. However, the authorities recently learned that he had become a follower of Jesus; as a consequence, his benefits have now been denied. In addition, he has been forced to leave his home. Currently, he is temporarily living with another Christian family. Praise the Lord, he still remains faithful.
Voice of the Martyrs Australia is assisting these families.
