While Christian worship is legal in Vietnam, the government views Christians and churches as a threat to its power and control. The government imposes restrictions, while local authorities and community members violently persecute Christians in rural areas. Christian converts are persecuted by family members.
Our front-line workers are asking for prayer for recent incidents:
- Brother Bao has been faithfully holding church gatherings at his house. Authorities have tried to stop the gatherings, but Brother Bao continues to meet together with believers. In a further attempt to put a stop to the gatherings, authorities started using an excavator to dig dirt right in front of his house with no other reason than to see his house collapse which can result from predictable landslides during the rainy season.
- Brother Thanh had hosted church gatherings at his house. Since they could not continue due to persecution, he had his house church gather under the trees, in the forest. However, when the authorities discovered this, they not only forced his family to leave their home and village, but they also seized Thanh’s land. Thankfully, his brother-in-law has kindly welcomed his family to stay with him and his own family since the incident. Brother Thanh continues to go back to his village to lead his house church once a week. Recently, when he was on the way home from sharing the gospel with others, he was physically attacked. Though he did not need to go to hospital, he still needed treatment for the injuries to his arm, his side and his shoulders.
- Mr Kim is the pastor of a house church. On 7 August at 2am, local authorities broke into his house, arrested him and took him away. As of today, he still has not returned home. He leaves behind his wife and two young children.
