Rakim was involved in a serious traffic accident in November 2023, which resulted in significant injuries, including a brain haemorrhage, bleeding in the stomach, and spinal displacement. After falling into a coma, the family’s hope dwindled, and they expected he would soon die.
Siti fervently prayed Islamic prayers for her husband by his bedside, seeking divine intervention. After the second day, without seeing any improvement in Rakim’s condition, at around 2am, she left his room and sat on some nearby stairs. While there, she noticed a painting of Jesus on the wall. Facing the painting directly, she prayed, “If you can heal my husband, then I will believe in you.” She prayed this prayer again and again.
Soon after, Rakim unexpectedly awoke, at first in pain. He was quickly given painkillers by the medical staff but soon made a full recovery. The doctor described Rakim’s healing as a miracle.
Following her husband’s discharge from the hospital, Siti openly shared the miraculous experience, declaring her faith in Jesus. This decision prompted severe backlash from her Muslim family, leading to their rejection from their extended family, expulsion from their home and Rakim’s termination from his job due to familial allegations of apostasy. The couple, along with their two children, were forced to relocate to a new area. Having lost his job, home and contact with his relatives, Rakim fell into despair.
VOM Australia assisted Rakim and Siti. They were provided financial assistance and a motorbike, which has become a vital asset, allowing Rakim to earn a steady income independently as a repairman. They have now found fellowship with other believers; this assistance and fellowship have given the couple fresh hope and a future. Rakim and Siti have since been baptised.
Siti expressed her profound gratitude in a letter to VOM:
“First, we would like to express our gratitude and thanks to the Lord Jesus, who has brought us together with VOM. We were greatly helped by the monthly support, especially to pay our room rent and children’s tuition fees. Rakim faced many challenges, especially with job opportunities limited due to the rainy season. However, the motorbike has enabled him to work independently, increasing our family’s financial stability.”
Furthermore, Siti shared the remarkable academic success of their daughter, Eka, who ranked 3rd in her class and boldly shared her faith with her peers, despite challenges. Siti expressed her pride in Eka’s growth, noting her daughter’s ability to hold on to her faith amidst teasing from her classmates, demonstrating resilience and faith in the face of adversity.
Rakim and Siti now belong to a community of believers, attending church services and participating in family cell groups. This sense of community has provided them with spiritual support during their difficult times and has helped them to grow in their commitment to Christ.
